Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880). Polish violinist and composer. He is referred to as 'the greatest violinist of his time'. He started composing in his teens, and became known as a renowned Polish composer, only second to Chopin. He only composed 24 music pieces in his lifetime. In his music, he combined the techniques of Paganini with Romantic imagination and Slavic colouring. His native Polish sentiment is evident in this piece. This music starts with violin solo. It is followed by the theme with 4 variations and a short piano solo as intermezzo. It ends with 3 last variations.
Pablo Sarasate (1844-1908). Spanish violinist and composer. As a violinist, he was distinguished by the tone of unsurpassed sweetness and purity. He was said to have sacrificed everything for the unfailingly beautiful tone. As a composer, he also put emphasis in bringing out the violin's exquisite tone and precise techniques. There are many among his music where he rearranged and incorporated traditional Spanish operas and folk songs.
